Miguel’s Madonnas

The Michael McCormick Gallery has a beautiful show up through the Holiday Season.

In the spirit of the Season, the gallery is featuring Taos Artist, Miguel Martinez and in particular, his iconic Madonnas and Saints.

Martinez was born and raised in Taos and has been making jewelry and painting forever. His oeuvre stretches far beyond the Madonnas, but these pieces have made him famous.

Fortunate enough to count the late R.C. Gorman as an early mentor, Gorman’s Modernist influence continues to inform Miguel’s work. The two artists also collaborated on a series of pots together, that are simply stunning.

Michael McCormick has shown Miguel Martinez in Taos exclusively for over three decades. Their’s is a long and entwined partnership. McCormick too was close to Gorman.

The gallery has very rare, 30-year-old monotypes by Miguel, featured in this show.
