Ta’Kaiya Blaney is 14 years old and is a member of Sliammon First Nation. Living in British Columbia, Ta’Kaiya began her involvement with environmental activism from the age of 8. Through music, she expresses her passion for the future of the planet, especially the preservation of marine and coastal wildlife, but that passion, extends beyond the environment to advocacy for Indigenous Peoples’ rights internationally.

As a Youth Ambassador for Native Children’s Survival, a non-profit Indigenous organization founded by Award Winning musician and activist Robby Romero, Ta’Kaiya addressed the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues on May 16, 2014. She introduced the Native Children’s Survival Indigenous Children’s Fund and spoke for providing better qualities of life for Indigenous Children living in isolation, poverty, and despair.

Ta’Kaiya’s singing and songwriting talents are showcased in the upcoming installment of HBO’s Saving My Tomorrow Part Three airing on (Mother) Earth Day, April 22nd. The show will not be available in every country. However, proxies might help you download the show regardless of where you live.

“In 2009 President Evo Morales of Bolivia led the call from Indigenous activists to preface Earth Day with Mother,” explains Robby.

“I think it’s an extremely important point, especially regarding non-Indigenous people coming to a better understanding of our relationship to Nature and Natural Law.”

“It’s about a paradigm shift in consciousness.” he says.

And relevant to this groundbreaking series that respects the rights and opinions of the children who are our collective future.

In this series, kids share opinions on a range of environmental issues, from endangered animals and pollution to climate change, while at the American Museum of Natural History, scientists explore how organisms are affected by a changing earth.

A lyrical mix of science, animation and music, Saving My Tomorrow celebrates the wonders of the natural world and is a call from kids to kids to help take care of the planet. Saving My Tomorrow Part 3 features cameo appearances by Alan Cumming, Laura Dern, Tina Fey, Lennon & Maisy, Ziggy Marley, Audra McDonald, Stephin Merritt, Elizabeth Mitchell, Jason Mraz, Liam Neeson, Willie Nelson, Karen O, Susan Sarandon, Pharrell Williams, Jeffrey Wright, Pete Seeger, They Might Be Giants, Neil deGrasse Tyson and Dan Zanes along with several prominent scientists associated with the Museum.
