On Saturday August 6th, the Grammy award winning blues/funk band from Athens, Alabama takes the stage in Kit Carson Park.
Opening act Dawes is an extra bonus for Taos music fans and others who are coming from out-of-town, a busy town is guaranteed that weekend.
Alabama Shakes features lead singer and guitarist Brittany Howard, who was credited by the New York Times for the band’s “rapid ascent” due to “Howard’s singular stage presence.”
Dawes have played Taos in the past and are a big draw along with the headliners.
The event is a partnership between AMP Concerts and Town of Taos. The Town is supporting the event with logistics as well as providing marketing efforts. Taos Mesa Brewing will be providing beer, wine and cider and there will be food trucks on site.
“The goal of an event like this is to take advantage of the success and popularity of a big name like Alabama Shakes to showcase TAOS to a new audience.” Explains Karina Armijo, the Town’s Marketing Director.
“Not only is it a great place to watch a great band but they can make a weekend out of it by exploring the Town, participating in outdoor activities, visiting the Pueblo, etc.” She continued.
“We are hoping if all goes well, Taos will continue to be on their radar as a destination spot for great music along with everything else we have to offer.”
Of course there is a precedent for a concert of this magnitude in Kit Carson Park. Dawn Richardson who with her partner, Dan Sherman produced the Taos Solar Festival for over a decade, and two years ago, brought the hugely popular Mumford and Sons to the same venue, proved that Taos is and should be, a viable stop for big name acts.
