Pink Halloween

The annual Halloween Extravaganza on Taos Plaza, seems like a great opportunity to wrap up Pink October with a flourish.

Why not continue with the Think Pink Theme for make up, costumes, sugar skulls and more! Candy, cupcakes (recipe here), cookies and other treats can all be turned pink with a little creativity (and food colouring.)

Not only will it look frighteningly delectable, it will remind your friends and neighbors that October is not only about sugar and candy, but a chance to help others in the community; making their lives a little sweeter.

You can even paint your pumpkins pink for lanterns that cast a soft, flattering rosy glow. The kids may think you’re crazy but that’s okay, it’s all in the name of Love and a great cause. Check out these gorgeous water-colour painted ones from Martha Stewart (of course), for inspiration.

Or go all out Dio de los Muertos with your gourds instead. You could of course also paint them to look like sugar skulls – a fun last minute project to do with the kiddos, or simply decorate them with flowers like the one below. Just remember to add some Pink to the mix,

You could go a bit Goth and deck yourself out like La Llorona (and why not listen to Taosena’ Dakota Romero’s breathtaking version of the song, while getting ready?) You can dress the babies up like the walking dead (a little ash, dust and burlap should do it), and you’re all set to scare the hell out of all your friends and neighbors. Carry a big bag for all the (Pink) candy coming your way!

If you plan to end your stroll Downtown, with a drink at the Taos Inn’s Adobe Bar, where ghosts are, I’m told, a’plenty, order up, and make it Pink!  TCSS get a percentage of the proceeds, and don’t forget, the great Baseball T’s you’ve seen around, can be purchased year round at the Holy Cross Hospital gift shop.

However you choose to celebrate and observe over the next few days, do have a Happy Halloween – don’t let the ghouls and goblins spoil the fun – plenty treats equal fewer tricks!

Thanks for coming out to support Holy Cross Hospital’s Cancer Support Services over the past few weeks. Your efforts are much appreciated. For more about the program, please visit their site below.
