Improv Medicine Comedy Show comes to Taos Onstage!
“I am so looking forward to it,” says Founder of Improv Medicine, Jason Pfeifer, “and giving some of the proceeds to Cancer Support.”
“This was perfect timing all around,” he notes, “as our event is the same days as For The Health of It, and we will be holding a 50/50 raffle and giving half to Taos Cancer Support.”
For The Health of It! Is a walk in Kit Carson Park to fight cancer in Taos, New Mexico. The program was in part started by Pfeifer (a cancer survivor himself, who for many years facilitated its Tuesday evening Support Groups), and Holy Cross Hospital here in Taos.
“For our 9th year, we are including a health fair,” Susan Strong told me when I dropped by her office last week. “It will include local healthcare providers and fun activities.”
“This is a fun family event for a great cause!” She said. “ All proceeds go directly to a local organization that focuses on local Northern New Mexican residents who are fighting cancer.”
Since July 2016, Improv Medicine has brought improvisation classes, workshops, and performances to the Taos area and around New Mexico. They have performed at a medical conference in partnership with Integrative Medicine de Taos, the annual gathering for the DH Lawrence Society, at the UNM Love your Library Event and numerous Cancer Survivorship Conferences.
On Saturday, June 29, Improv Medicine will be performing its first comedy show at Taos Onstage. The show will be a mix of improv, sketch comedy, and a new Taos Weekend Update. This show will be adult-themed, one time only, and performed by an ensemble of Taos improvisors.
“We define improvisation as the art of creating something fun and collaborative in the moment that did not exist a moment ago. We look forward to our first comedy show!” Says Jason.
“I kept hearing around Taos that the town needed some improv entertainment,” Jason explains, “so we decided to hold a few auditions to put together an ensemble to create an improv team and had over 30 people come out. That is when we knew we had to have an improv show!”
Becky Ciletti, an Improv Medicine Facilitator and Performer, will be directing the show.
