October is the start of our Winter Season here in the Land of Enchantment.
Our first snow falls at or very close to Halloween and already the crisp air and falling leaves have rendered Summer a memory.
Soon November will be here with Thanksgiving marking the opening of Taos Ski Valley and Taosenos will begin to do their Holiday shopping in earnest.
As the days grow colder (and shorter) I’m going to focus on some of the fabulous shopping we have right here in our little town. There’s really no need to go anywhere to find exactly what you are looking for, for everyone on your list.
The Historical district boasts some of the finest shopping in the region; from Art (and crafts) to clothing and jewelry, we have it. From Kit Carson Road to the John Dunn Shops, Bent Street to Ledoux, there’s bound to be that special something for that special someone, waiting just for you.

Definitely try to schedule your visit in time to participate in the Lighting of Ledoux, when the entire community strolls along our oldest street, enjoying pop-up Art installations care of the Paseo crew, occasional Fashion extravaganzas thanks to Shawna Yambire and Nina Silfverberg, and delicious food and libations care of the generous Restauranteurs and business owners on Ledoux Street.
The festivities begin across the Paseo at Reneux and wind all the way down the narrow lane to the Harwood Museum. Farolitas are lit and if we are lucky, a light dusting of snow will grace us with picture postcard beauty.
Bonfires On Bent Street happen during December as well, with all the shops and galleries open late, giving everyone an opportunity to get those last minute gifts together, and finally, on Christmas Eve more bonfires and much celebration is in evidence out at Taos Pueblo during a Feast Day and Evening unlike any other.
